Beef Liver and gravy
1 lb container of sliced beef liver from grocery store
1/2 tsp bacon grease
2 C water
1 heaping tsp corn starch
1 cup water
Melt bacon grease in fry pan over medium heat.
Add slices of liver with a fork leaving some of the drippings behind in the container.
The liver begins to turn lighter as it sears. Then it will begin to darken, turn.
Remove cooked liver from the fry pan before the edges turn black.
Turn off the heat.
Place cooked liver on cutting board and cut into 1/2 inch cubes.
Not a wood cutting board!
To the container with the drippings add 2 cups cold water and cornstarch. stir well.
Add to the fry pan.
Place heat on low, stirring.
Add diced meat and stir.
When you see steam turn off the flame and stir in remaining cup of water.
Cool, stir and serve a Tbsp spoon (or 2) to bowl before adding normal kibble.
Refrigerate the remaining liver and gravy for the next meal with a tight cover.
Your poodle won't need it reheated. Just watch how fast he or she will gobble dinner up!

NOTE:
Often, to the top of the kibble when I have added wet goodies to the bottom of the bowl.
I will sprinkle on Wysong's Dentatreat TM.
It sprinkles on like a shaker of Parmesan cheese.

Mini Apple Muffin Treats
Preheat oven 350.
3 golden & 1 red delicious fresh, peeled, cored and shredded apples
2 large carrots, peeled and grated or shredded
2 C all purpose flour
2 large eggs
1 C finely ground kibble
(I used California Blend puppy food, you can use your favorite)
3/4 C milk
2 oz Dairy Sour cream
1/2 C instant mashed Potato flakes
1 tsp Baking Powder
1/8 C Canola oil
Mix well.
(I used an electric mixer in short bursts with a lot of hand folding.)
I sprayed mini muffin tins one time lightly with Pam.
Fill the mini muffin tins half way by teaspoon and press down to shape.
Bake about 15 minutes.
They will be soft, not hard.
(If you want them harder you can turn off the oven and leave them cool in there)
Cool completely on racks.
Store unused muffins in tightly fitting container in the refrigerator.
Makes about 96 depending on how you fill the mini muffin tins.

Dog Brownies
The following Dog Brownie recipe is from one of Laurien Berenson's books at the end of the story.
She wrote that dog show exhibitors have been using this recipe for years as bait and it makes a wonderful treat or reward.
I tried it and agree with her! My poodles love it!
She wrote her dogs love garlic and since we do too, I added a lot. maybe too much because my kitchen smelled like garlic
when the brownies were finished baking!
Next time I make the brownies, I will use a little less garlic only because when ever I open the bowl they all come right
to my feet! The aroma can even wake up a napping poodle so it is too difficult to give only 1 a treat! I had wondered if less
garlic could help me with individual treat times.
One change to the recipe below when I had made it.
It has 1 cup flour and 2 cups of cornmeal listed.
My problem was the cornmeal box only had one cup left in it so I improvised by using
2 cups of flour with 1 cup of cornmeal and it worked out just fine.
You can try it both ways to see which you like better!
1 lb. Liver
1C flour
2C cornmeal
2 eggs
1/2 C chicken broth or milk (I used milk)
garlic powder to taste***
You can add more water if necessary when mixing.
Puree liver in blender. Add to other ingredients in mixing bowl. Mix well. Pour Mixture into greased brownie pan and bake
for 25 minutes at 350 degrees.
Cool, cut and enjoy!
My brownies were cut no larger than 1/2 inch square because I wasn't sure if they would chew or swallow hole the first
time. Glad I took the time to cut them so small!
These brownies must be refrigerated in an airtight container to prevent spoiling. Also can be frozen for future use.

A Little More
Any time I am baking Sweet Potatoes, Squash, Pumpkin or Carrots
I always make extra to give to my poodles!
They love orange foods.
I can even simply open a can of Pumpkin and add to their dinner.
Not the pie filling because they don't need the sugar!
They also like raw carrots and cantaloupe, in small pieces fed by hand!
Although poodles prefer meat, they will enjoy some vegetables and fruits.
Just remember no Onions or Chocolate!
